The "subway" actually travels through several wormholes, instantly transporting cargo and people between planets.

Space ship FTL technically also uses wormholes. But since they need to be portable and lower powered, the wormholes they create are slower to traverse (plot convenient travel duration).

The ship's wormdrive is completely destroyed, and either no replacements are available, or they've been blackballed by all local sellers.

@motomatters The solution is not to aim at your destination, but to calculate where it will be by the time you arrive and aim for that instead.

Watching that Brian Cox talking about space and how looking further into space means looking further back in time, and it struck me that faster than light travel has a complication.

The faster you can go and the further you can travel, the less of a clue you have where you are going. Travel 4 light years and you should be fine. 4000ly is trickier. 400 million light years? Who knows what happened to the galaxy you were aiming at?
