I see my little suburb has a tentative date of October this year to upgrade from to , having originally been scheduled for October 2013. Dare... dare I hope?

According to this, my suburb is now slated to be upgraded in December 2023. I'll believe it when it happens. We were originally supposed to get FTTP but that changed when the federal government did. And we ended up with crappy subpar FTTN instead.

@dgar Accurate summary, albeit fatally flawed coz you failed to swear *enough* about that mega-turd madmonk. 🀬

Over the past several years, i lost two [i'm on the fscken super-crap , with 700m of rotted copper from me to the node, hence top sync d/l speed available is a lousy ~34 Mbps, & ~9 up] during [my my but those popping capacitors are surprisingly loud!]. Consequently i now do this constant dance of needing to keep a regular eye on the radar site, & disconnect my every time another thunderstorm comes. There's a mountain right near my town hence via the orographic rainfall effect my area cops more than its fair share of storms anyway... & ofc due to our lovely violent t/s frequency & severity are increasing.

Thanks so much, PM madmonk, PM trumble... for destroying what should have been a fabulous nation-building fibre network.

@sortius Who knew that my conversion several years back from to would yield such shitty speeds? Who knew that having to persist with >700m of shitty rotted copper from my telstra street pit [fills with water at the mere whiff of a dull day] to the nearest node box, would give me shitty speeds on my shitty service? Who knew? Paul Budde & numerous other tech experts. madmonk & trumble [😜 ] did it anyway. Bastards.

Still no internet - that's over 12 hours now - an "unplanned outage" - thanks NBN.

The state of in Australia - looking at a house with maximum 48/11 internet speed. Cost to upgrade to full fibre... $25k, then ~$110/month for a 100/40 plan.

Or... Enterprise Ethernet, which is business 100/100 fibre to the premises, $400/month, no build cost and over a 3 year contract comes to $13k total.

Maybe I need to get into data colocating as a home business / hobby.

My poor little FTTN connection got hammered this morning when someone with a decent number of followers boosted a couple of my posts with photos. I only have about 1.5mbps upstream bandwidth available, and this was getting used up for the better part of an hour by other instances polling mine for the photos. My ping was in the region of 2300ms.

I'm more than happy to move to a faster tier, but imma need to be able to reach it. The biggest limitation for me is that I'm on FTTN and max out at 38mbps or so. Drop some fibre in there and I'll upgrade tomorrow.

Quality install, NBN. To fit new fibre Maddison box, unscrew old box from wall, expose the cavity to the wall, leave the old box unlocked, and the new one, and don’t even put the fibre guard in place *sigh*

Hope it survives 3 weeks to internal Install works.

"NBN Co has made its strongest criticism of copper-based broadband yet, arguing it faces mounting operational and maintenance costs for premises it can’t switch over to fibre."

Just imagine what the would look like if the had not insisted on their outmoded solution - thanks Tony, Malcolm & Scott
