This shambles has gone far too long already. xDSL and DOCSIS et al is simply *not* fibre all the way to the premises, and should not be sold or advertised as such.

Hmm Monday's aren't that bad after all. Just got home and noticed Open Reach have started installing large telegraph poles around our end of the village which to me only means one thing. The old analogue telephone / VDSL ( Aluminium ) cables all run under ground here into the houses so this can only mean Fibre to premises via telegraph poles !
Could I really have 1Gb fibre before the year is out ? No more 30/3 VDSL. ๐Ÿ˜œ

Millions of to get faster - news.com.au apple.news/AMack3w1SR4K-ro4hWr | Yeah, but apparently itโ€™s only available to select householdsโ€ฆ Many of us are ineligible for this, which means weโ€™re stuck with third-world broadband connections. Guess Iโ€™ll just keep waiting for cellular data prices to come down, since itโ€™s FAR more reliable. F**k the NBN. |

According to this, my suburb is now slated to be upgraded in December 2023. I'll believe it when it happens. We were originally supposed to get FTTP but that changed when the federal government did. And we ended up with crappy subpar FTTN instead.

One for the UK fans. I've just seen this ONT install in a Youtube video. Where can I get one of the little round fibre entry caps?
The BTOR guy made a complete dog's dinner of the plastering when he brought the fibre into mine, it'd be nice to cover the gaping hole and blown brick and plaster!

With cityfibre now available and our existing openreach based contract coming to an end, we are in the position to look for a new broadband supplier.

Does anybody have experience of Brillband broadband? Full symmetric 900Mb/s broadband for a fixed price of ยฃ35 / month for 18 months seems to be the best value offering.

I'm not really understanding how but based service seems to be less reliable than my service. My PPP drops for ~4 seconds regularly. 2pm today, 3am today, 3am yesterday, then once on 27th may, 23rd may, 18th may and beyond. Almost like the network I'm on isn't yet production ready!

Another day using my mobile hotspot - and finding offline activities as much as possible. Tomorrow the OpenReach engineer is due, but I'm not holding my breath that we will have our phone line back.

On a slightly different note, this situation caused me to make enquiries about fibre in our area (internet says it's not available) so I've been emailing around the fibre installation guys to find out... but no reply. Nothing.

Today has started out well, it can surely only go downhill from here.
engineer turned up outside my house this morning. Went out for a chat. Turned out he's a splicer connecting up a node right outside our drive with fibre running all over the place from there. He's already confirmed we have a lit feed from the exchange. Yay. He should be done in three days and then hand over to OR for commissioning. We should be able to order within a fortnight. Double-plus yay!

I spy with my little eye an Openreach contractor fitting FTTP kit in the BT manhole right outside where I live ... it's full of water.

Can anyone recommend a wired (no wifi) gigabit throughput edge router for home FTTP use? Needs to be able to do VLANs (keep IoT separate) and useful if it can also connect to a VPN. Ideally also an SFP port, but not essential.

It will be replacing an EdgeRouter X, which isn't really capable of 1gbps throughout.

A broadband project announced yesterday involves installing 49 miles of fiber optic in , bringing service to and remote areas south of .

822 locations sounds like a modest number but it belies the geographic scope of the undertaking, mostly covered with federal money and some matching money by the provider.

And they say they'll have it done in a year, which is bold.

Last year BT/OpenReach claimed this was impossible, yesterday Zen/OpenReach just got on with it.

Tomorrow is install day with @zeninternet
. I'm expecting an outage of some length but in principle I just need to move an ethernet cable from my DSL modem to the ONT when it's installed.

I will then find out if the mystery SIM in my LTE backup is still working, or if I need to subscribe to @aaisp
for that.

My village has been (and still is being) dug up and cabled by Swish Fibre (swishfibre.com/). Aside from the fact that in some places theyโ€™ve left a terrible mess of the pavements, does anyone have any experience of them? My Vodafone FTTC contract ends in June so am considering my options (although Iโ€™m not sure Swish are doing my road for now anyway).

Still trying to get my head around the rollout. The fibre has been run (from the exchange in the nearest city, not local exchange, I'm told). Openreach fibre checker says "This exchange isn't in our major build yet" for both the local and the city exchanges.
Going to have to wait to see, I guess. Ho hum.

The state of in Australia - looking at a house with maximum 48/11 internet speed. Cost to upgrade to full fibre... $25k, then ~$110/month for a 100/40 plan.

Or... Enterprise Ethernet, which is business 100/100 fibre to the premises, $400/month, no build cost and over a 3 year contract comes to $13k total.

Maybe I need to get into data colocating as a home business / hobby.

I can tell you for certain I can't get a upgrade, believe me I'd know I've been complaining about terrible National Broadband Network speeds for years. I've complained to AussieBraodband, Telstra, Spintel, NBNco, the council etc, even had a Telstra contractor come out and he tested the micro node and said the whole thing was shot and needed to be replace, of course that never happened.

Good chat with engineer who was trying to light the fibre outside my house. will be available either at the end of the month or in several months time depending on the route the cable takes, apparently (he couldn't tell me this).
Fibre is definitely in the ground, but OpenReach FTTP checker says there are no plans to provide us with FTTP at all.
It's all very strange.
