Conversation between me and someone:

X: can't trust em to work a double, he left trash on the floor.

Y: If you expected me to work a double, I'd demand double pay.

Also *sotto voce* you get what you get.

Can’t believe insurance companies run us around making us file paperwork and navigate their systems and individuals can’t even bill them for our time.

Why should they not pay us for the time we spend on them? Isn’t that capitalism? They should have to pay us for our service support.

I met the requirements of my new position to qualify for a pay bump and I wanted to see if it was in effect for this pay period. This brought a few things to my attention, and seeing as how today is a sick day, I’m just going to grumble about them in a disjointed stream of consciousness here. Most days I’m all for discussion, today is not one of those days. I just want to get some things off my chest, and my wife has heard it enough over the last 25ish years, that I’ll spare her and yell into the void here.

#1 - Money is bullshit. I never look at my pay stubs. I made a conscious decision years ago not to, back when I was making slightly more than minimum wage. Seeing that I worked 50+ hours per week, and having >30% of my pay deducted was a trigger. Here I am 20 years later, and I still feel the same way. I’m ok with taxes, I enjoy the roads, healthcare and education they pay for. I’m triggered that it’s a different set of rules for some people than it is for the average Canadian. If I can’t opt out of contributing to the (arbitrary thing taxes pay for) because I don’t use it (ie mandatory contributions), the same should apply to everyone equally.

#2 - Taxation is bullshit. I hate (loathe) that corporations and the excessively wealthy are treated the way that they are. I hate that average people are treated they way that they are. Here’s a thought, tax the dollar, not the entity. The first 25k of income/revenue is a write off, if you’re making 25k or less per year, you’re the exception. For everyone else, you pay (arbitrary)% on every dollar above 25k. No more bullshit tax breaks for corporations and the 1%, every dollar is taxed. I’m no economist, but I know that if you spread the load across more nodes, you average down on the higher load nodes. Instead of having millions of people paying >30% of their income in taxes, maybe they pay 20%, or lower, but it’d be _fair_.

#3 - The broken nature of taxation is bullshit.

If you follow the rules this next section doesn’t apply to you. If you’re one of these companies, pay close attention:
thestar.com/amp/business/2022/

That’s 30 Billion dollars in one year of money rightfully owed to the people of Canada by Scummy corporations, who have stolen it out of the hands of people who need it most. This is ~10% of the federal healthcare budget, ~40% of the federal education budget. It grinds my gears that the school systems struggle because some shithead executive took a 31% higher bonus in 2021 than previous years (policyalternatives.ca/publicat).

#4 - Corporate greed is bullshit. Profit isn’t a dirty word. I’m a big fan of profit. I make it when I can. Greed is bullshit. If you intentionally profit at the expense of others, and inflict hardship for that profit, you’re trash.

Canadians should look at every organization that avoids paying its fair share of taxes, and say “fuck you, pay _me_”. All corporate accounting should be an independent entity, I’d rather spend the money paying Canada Revenue to keep corporations honest, then write off their tax avoidance. If you’re caught avoiding taxes, the fine should be +100% of the taxes you avoided. Increasing by +100% for every instance. No holds barred, no tolerance. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Fuck you, pay me. Fairly pay the system that enables you to make money, and pay my kids, they’re going to have to clean up your bullshit, fucking pay them to do what you choose not to, you you slimy corporate shit.

You want to use our roads to deliver your goods? .

You want to work your employees to burnout level so they’re an additional burden on the healthcare system? .

You want to pollute our environment and inevitability ditch the cleanup responsibilities?

The list goes on…

And yeah, if you took government money during the pandemic, laid off workers and still gave bonuses to corporate leaders (looking at you, Air Canada), get fucked. Spend your own money first, when that’s gone, then come looking for a hand out. Your business is failing? Might I suggest you ask your staff how you could cut costs? I guarantee you they’ll gladly nominate the bonus structure, starting at the top and work your way down.

#5 - The bullshit is bullshit. Canada is a Socialist Democracy. We always have been. We take care of our own. We help the weak and the vulnerable, we support those that need it because it’s the right thing to do. If you disagree, if capitalism is your god, if you profit off other’s pain and exploit those who can’t protect themselves, get the fuck out. You want to act like an American, go there and do it. You’re the problem. We all succeed when we _all_ succeed.

#6 - Politics is bullshit. Across the board, it’s a broken system. Red hates blue, blue hates red, years go by and everybody suffers. We should stop voting for candidates, and start voting for policies. Policies should be on the ballot, vote for the policies in a ranked choice system, the policies determine the politicians who get elected. Also, put budget spending on the ballot and let voters choose where to spend the money by Implementing something like federalbudgetchallenge.org/.

- Conservatives are bullshit. As a moderate, I’m calling you out. I have conservative values, but what someone does in their personal life is their business. Love is love, people over profits, exploitation is wrong, we have a responsibility to help each other.

- Liberals are bullshit. As a moderate, I’m calling you out too. Enough is enough. I’m all for the pandemic spending, CERB WAS A GOOD THING, CEWS was even better, now you need to pay for it. If the only thing you did was recoup the taxes that were avoided by corporations, the $600B that was spent would be paid in 20 years without additional burden in the tax payers. Tax the shit out of those that profiteered off of the pandemic.

We live in the most comfortable era of human history. Life expectancy is up, generally, suffering is down. Let’s make the most of it. Call out bullshit for what it is.

Y'all doing AI 'art' better tag that shit so I can filter it out. I don't need to be outraged multiple times a day by people who think they're owed the art they want in a style and skill level they want without paying for it, using tools that rip off not just all of human art in history that is not covered by copyright, but the blood, sweat, and tears of underpaid artists who have for decades had to put up with choosing beggars and "it's great exposure."
