Dipped back into the Deryni novels, but finding Childe Morgan even more of a long list of names than usual. The trouble with a multi-generational series like this is how the same things—heirs, marriages, treachery, persecution, deaths—happen over and over, which may be realistic but it does make it increasingly hard to care about any of the characters.
I still want to run a proper campaign of The Deryni Adventure Game, but I'm starting to wonder if my brain will ever handle it.
Couldn't miss the opportunity to answer the question of my favourite system: it had to be Fudge, Steffan O'Sullivan's remarkably malleable game. The dice are a stroke of genius, the base rules intuitive and robust but capable of being crafted into games of tremendous mechanical depth if desired.
And it is always available free of charge.

Fudge Gamer: "Fudge Revival"
@craigmaloney I mostly still use the 1993 rules with 2d6 table, or "two positive/negative dice, use lowest, doubles or 6 are 0" method. Swingier but faster.

How you can tell if a book is a #FudgeRPG book:
Step 1) Look for the dice probabilities of 4DF.
There is no step 2.
Fancy playing Fudge online? This could be your chance!

@SJohnRoss Remember that Fudge adventure with the angry chicken in the cover, that I posted about a couple of weeks ago? It's taken a while but the author responded on the Fudge forum and announced it's now available in PDF: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/432923/The-Apology-A-FUDGE-Solo-Adventure
There's a new solo adventure available for the Fudge RPG: The Apology, by Tim Labor. Looks to be Amazon only at the moment.
Our short run through an Alien RPG adventure wrapped up last night (audio should be available on Friday). Worked very well using the free Polar Fudge Adventures rules instead of the official system and all in all was most enjoyable… yet I still cannot see how the Alien franchise can maintain interest as a game setting. Great for an occasional bit of space horror, though.

It's Friday! but you can still feel the despair of a Monday morning by listening to the latest game session from Whartson Hall!
Polar Fudge Adventures: The Extraction, an Adventure for Musketeers 1628. Session 2: "Even the Vegetables Have Plots"

Second session of the Musketeers game I'm running went fairly well. The Polar Fudge Adventures rules take a little getting used to because the players do almost all the rolling, but everything seems slick and adequate for most situations. Incredibly, despite being in Madrid for several hours, our heroes haven't engaged in an illegal duel or burnt down a tavern.
Yet.
The latest freebie from Polar Blues Press is Polar Fudge Medieval Adventures, loosely based on medieval England via Ivanhoe, Robin Hood and fantasy fiction. The PDF is available to download here, along with other goodies:

Polar Fudge Adventures: "The Extraction" session 1, "Delacourt of the Rumpled Pants"
It's a new game for Whartson Hall as we don our laciest cuffs and most outrageous hats, gird our accents and flounce into 17th century France for a secret mission involving one of Cardinal Richelieu's spies! Swashes will be buckled, buckles will be swashed and derring-do will be derring-done!

That actually went pretty well, despite my faffing and fretting. Polar Fudge Adventures packs a lot of game into a very streamlined presentation, although it's too early to know whether the players doing all the rolling will wear a bit thin or not. An encouraging start.
Final prep underway for tonight's Fudge Musketeers game. A few potential encounters pencilled in (just in case), handy minor NPC names jotted down, major NPC character traits reviewed, the nature of the characters' mission checked and… that's about it. We'll see what happens when M. Treville sends his Musketeers south. Going south right from the start is generally what our adventures do…
I'll be running a Three Musketeers game for Whartson Hall tomorrow evening, so there's a bit of prep to be done after work today. Putting NPCs onto index cards, making encounter notes, checking the rules for the version of #FudgeRPG I'll be using etc.
Naturally my mind is having none of it and has jumped to reading Colonial Gothic instead.
