The standard mechanical fuel pumps found on classic cars, are very reliable.
With that said, nothing automotive lasts forever. So, at some point, mechanical fuel pumps will fail.
Firstly, most mechanical fuel pumps, are used on older engines, that have carburetors.

end of the work day. its been a no nap, 2 milkshake day but the #fuelPump on the #skoolie is back in. The fuel lines are not hooked up yet but after tighten the bolts one ratchet click at a time the fuel lines should be easy.

I really do want to go back in time and offer some "career counseling" to the automotive engineer that did the layout of the #fuelPump, block and clearance to the frame.

my #skoolie project. I'm trying to get a new #fuelPump. thought I had a deal with the local oreillys store.
well that was a bust. I went to the store and they changed the order to some unknown house part. they said that if I really wanted the actual delphi part it was a special order with an #extraFee and wait a week, I guess they do this as a ?service? to the customers.

checked local napa stores and they all said special order and more money. WTH.
 I smell a scam.

my #skoolie project. I've been working on removing the #fuelpump ; on a pickup its easy, done it a few times. On a ford E350 van with 7.3l diesel it is a PITA. Now I just hope that it really is bad. I would hate to think I went through all the work for nothing, I also have no idea how I'm getting it back in.

#buslife working on #fuelPump problem. After removing a bracket holding the starter cable and bypassing the fuel-line from the tank there was just enough room to loosen the output fuel-line 1/8 turn at a time. It popped out so it was under some tension. I'm not looking forward to putting it back. Next is the input port. #skoolie
