Think this might be Blackening Waxcap fungus, Hygrocybe conica. Usually a fungus of grasslands or dunes, but here was below beech trees, not exactly confirming the ID. However, not thriving too well there, maybe suffering fom drought. Seeing a group at all stages of blackening is normal for this species, as here. #ScottishWildlife #FungiUK More info on it here:

A beezer of a Shaggy Inkcap fungus a few days ago by path between Macrae Monument and Dykedale, by Dunblane. Height 30cm. Just beginning to deliquesce already. (Wonderful when botanical artists use its Shaggy Inkcap ink to produce illustrations of the species!) #ScottishWildlife #FungiUK
And here’s another attractive but very different fungus, a bit like a button! Think it is Entoloma genus, but not sure what species. These were growing in amongst the Wax-caps posted a few minutes ago. #ScottishWildlife #FungiUK
I’m no fungus expert, but I think this very lovely fungus is Hygrocybe acutoconica, Wax-cap family. (Formerly called Hygrocybe persistens.) The stem can vary from pale to deep red. By the cycle track Doune to Dunblane yesterday. #ScottishWildife #FungiUK

@Dave2022 Goodness me. Never heard of this before, but there are a very few records of it in Scotland. See here for distribution map and more photos of it. Colour is sometimes dark green, not black. . . .

Dog Stinkhorn fungi which have collapsed to the ground, probably from lack of moisture under dense conifers. In the close-up you can see from tiny light reflections that the dark-green top part is sticky, and it’s a little smelly too, attracting flies. Stirling University Campus a few days ago. Photo of it upright, and more information on it here:

Fungi time of year now for sure. Struggling with ID for these, though maybe the first is Orange Grisette, see the remains of the collar at the base. But interesting colours/ forms/ patterns anyway. Things are definitely starting to look autumnal in our area, so probably there will be even more fungi soon. Near Brig o Turk today. #ScottishWildlife #FungiUK

Surprised to see blackening #waxcaps appearing today. Much earlier than I normally see them. #fungi #fungiuk #fungiphoto #FungiFriday

Pretty sure this colony of newly-emerged fungi will become recognisable Puffballs, with a hole in the middle of the cap inside which their tiny spores sit, to be blown out by high winds or heavy rain. You can see that the form of the stem and cap is continuous, unlike most fungi. So new that they’re pretty clean and barely nibbled yet. Across road from Logie Cemetery Car Park and follow wee path towards disused Lodge House. #ScottishWildlife #FungiUK
Posted about this fungus specimen The Prince a couple of weeks ago. Here is the rest of the story. The sequence is: just emerged; grown quickly in 24 hrs; a week later, cap broken by trampling ( dog? person? roe deer?); gone, but what have we here, after scrabbling in the leave litter - 90% sure this is another crop of many ‘The Prince’s emerging. Must visit again soon! Under mature Yews, Stirling Uni car park across from Golf Pavilion. #FungiUK #ScottishWildlife
Recent heavy showers have brought out this wonderful fungus ‘The Prince’, Agaricus augustus. 1st photo yesterday 12cm across cap. Today’s 21cm across cap! I expect stem to grow quite tall next. Stirling Uni Campus under mature Yews near the Golf Pavilion Car Park. It was there or nearby last year too. #ScottishWildlife #FungiUK
The colony of Scarlet or Ruby Elf Cup Fungus by Doune Railway Walk is growing slowly. Some of it well-chewed today! A nice colour contrast to spring yellows and whites. #ScottishWildlife #FungiUK
Jelly Ear fungus today in sunshine by path between Dunblane High School and Doune Cycle track. Colours varies a lot depending on the light. #ScottishWildlife #FungiUK
