In 1990, this was the unofficial flag of the newly reconstituted German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. While this flag was properly representative of Mecklenburg, it of course had no meaning for the people of Vorpommern. So the next year, the state adopted a new, more boring flag, with colors acceptable to the entire state.

I've had this flag for about 30 years, but this is the first time up on a flagpole.

The flag of Ontario was officially adopted in May of 1965, a few months after the new flag of Canada was introduced. The Ontario flag was based on the design of the Red Ensign, but with the provincial shield of arms in the fly instead of the national arms.

The Toronto Daily Star opined: "the Red Ensign was quite properly rejected as a flag for Canada because it was not an acceptable symbol of the nation as a whole. But it is much more suitable as a flag for Ontario".

"Fun with flags". My neighbor who loves flags has set the flags to mourn for the death of Pope Benedict. The Vatican flag at half mast, the other three (France, Luxembourg and Belgium) tied by black ribbons so they do not wave with the wind. I have never seen this tying in other places and flags.

I've always enjoyed the #FunWithFlags segments on #TheBigBangTheory.

I'm confused here. The link takes me to a page with the same image as shown, but I see no accompanying "story" as to WHY they are similar.

The next few posts also appear to be Images of flags with no "stories."

Am I doing something wrong? Or is it just pictures?

Morocco - a solid red flag with a green interlaced 5 pointed star in the middle. The red represents the blood of their ancestors and the green star represents the 5 Pillars of Islam.

France - Tricolor of blue white and red. Officially France says the white is the color of the king and the blue and red are the colors of Paris. It's also said it represents liberté (freedom: blue), égalité (equality: white), fraternité (brotherhood: red).
