My one consolation as a crusty "put on a sweater!" type elder is that we embark now on the two weeks between TOO HOT and TOO COOL (both metrics arbitrarily determined by Vegan Lawyer GF, whom I swear is #reptilian) where the #furnace is completely OFF and we can open some #windows.

Just ordered print n play materials from DoxDirect for #theZone #ttrpg for #Furnace in October, mainly as it’s unlikely to arrive physically before the con. 55 sheets of card to cut 😱 but I’m sure it will be worth it.

Anyone know any good scenarios out there for #SwordsottheSerpentine from @pelgranepress and @kevinkulp? I’m looking to run the game at #Furnace in October and would like to have something to fall back on if the muse doesn’t work in time. Would be running for between 4-6 people in a 4h slot.

See previous boost: I've submitted two games for #Furnace #ttrpg con: my own Things from the Flood adventure, Witchlight, and the Darkness of the Demimonde adventure, Horror in Houndsditch. The former was oversubscribed at North Star so I thought I'd give people who didn't get in another shot. The latter is just good fun - although it's just possible I might switch it out for one of my own DotD scenarios if they go well.

Here is a photo from my visit to Elkem at Thamshavn. This is one of the two furnaces at the facility. The first one commenced operation in 1965, while the second one was built in 1981 to increase production.

Wasn't expecting to spend the day doing #furnace-maintenance things, but that's the way of furnaces in the winter. We sometimes have to respond to their demands after our continuous demands of them.

It's had some hesitancy getting started related to initial startup pressure in the condensate drainage system. I had been putting off a thorough cleaning of that gear, but i have jumped into it this afternoon.

#furnace update: getting cold, everyone is under mountains of blankets. I had one of the kids play video games on my office computer for 7 straight hours (oh what a horrible life) and then I put a video game intro up that I know pegs the GPU, and turned off the monitor. I don’t have a space heater in this room but at least I have the 500 watt computer going and it’s fairly warm compared to the rest of the upstairs. The space heaters are all downstairs.
