There is great potential for Australia by understanding and planning for where the country will be in 50 years.
By detecting and readying ourselves to take advantage of emerging trends we can develop new economies, build resilience against threats, and take control of our fate.

Fusion supports:

- Creating a minister for the future to ensure the long-term consequences of all policies are assessed and considered.
- Investing in research into new medicines and techniques to improve health and healthy lifespan.
- Developing manufacturing districts for industries of the future such as space, renewable energy, and quantum and biological computing.

Our policy:

Congratulations to the four solar cell pioneers who have been awarded the 2023 Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering! This year’s prize recognises work over decades to increase the efficiency of solar cells – technology that is now used in Australia’s 3 million rooftop solar panel systems.

Importantly, this group chose to publish their findings in journals, making it widely available, rather than file patents for their innovations.

Much of this groundbreaking work was done at Australian universities. Many solutions to the world’s current and future challenges lie in our public research institutes, but they are underfunded.

One of the best investments our government can make is in research and development of technologies to secure a clean energy future.

Amazing – a French nun at the age of 116 caught Covid-19, had no idea, and survived.

Sadly, this week she passed away at the age of 118. Despite Sister André being harder than any centenarian we know, it seems our human lifespan has a hard stop at about 120 years.

Whatever the future for nuclear fission, nuclear fusion research is a field that Australia should be at the forefront of. To make sure we don't lock ourselves out of future opportunities in fusion power, we support repealing the ban on nuclear energy. There is a parliamentary inquiry on the topic closing Monday 16th – add your voice! aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Busin
