Things that have delighted me this morning:
+ new guidance focuses on finding public domain homes, not purebred museums
+ moving away from calling it disposal to maybe decluttering and rehoming
+ objects coming and going should be a natural cycle
Things that have horrified me:
- how many museums still resort to putting things in skips rather than finding new homes, a sustainability nightmare!
Things I have mixed feelings about:
~ telling museums it's okay to sell off
Today I'm attending the #MuseumsAssociation one day conference on the #FutureOfDisposal, which is a hot topic for #museums everywhere.
I'm very pro-rationalisation, which often horrifies fellow #conservators, but we just can't keep everything.
I'd be curious to hear what my fellow GLAM folks on here think of pruning #collections - yay or nay?
Personally I think it's as much a part of good #CollectionsManagement as acquiring new objects and looking after them while they're in your care.
