As spikes again - in 2 weeks cases are up 29% in US, incl. 56% in , 38% in ; while deaths are up 33% in the US, 55% in , 65% in - it surely looks bleak for mandates, no?

It's important to understand that AI is not a threat to human jobs. Instead, it can act as a catalyst for growth and innovation. In fact, AI is expected to create more jobs than it displaces, and it will also enhance human skills and capabilities. The age of AI presents key challenges and opportunities for businesses and workers alike. These include reskilling, promoting diversity, and addressing ethical concerns.

AI may be coming for our jobs, but is there hope that can be avoided, particularly in journalism? Here's a look at my latest Substack newsletter.

Just out: A new paper I published with the great Tanja Carstensen in AI & Society, in which we explore how gender is negotiated in the German media discourse on AI and the future of work.

Gendered AI: German news media discourse on the future of work
doi.org/10.1007/s00146-023-017

Here are some of the main findings of our analysis of 178 articles from 2015 to 2021 from German newspapers and newsmagazines:
‣ AI is portrayed as something that is shaped by society. Technological determinism is almost non-existent.
‣ The ideal worker norm is renegotiated vis-a-vis gendered artifacts such as service robots. What is the future role of women in the workforce?
‣ AI being portrayed as shaped by powerful young white men developers who are responsible for AI’s risk.
‣ It is great to see that some of the feminist and scholarly critique on AI, especially on bias and discrimination, is taken up by the media. However, we argue that this is a concept to be challenged as it masks power relations in production chains that go beyond questions of diversity, awareness and individual responsibility.

I had been under the impression that "social security would collapse", but I don't think I ever thought through that there's a trust but that also the program is funded through current payrolls, which is most of the funding.

I got to work on my personal statement in s short session by Oana Joncu at

The change I want to enact in the world:

People understand their needs better

People ask for what they need from other people

People serve each others’ needs through personal exchanges

And thus we get rid of people substituting their unmet needs with useless crap (consumerism, meaningless work, toxic work places and other societal structures etc.)
