I deleted a toot in which I expressed anxiety that people would steal my CDs at my garage sale today. Ha! only 3-4 people even bothered to look at them and I only sold a few.

Apparently (I've been told) NOBODY listens to CDs anymore because they're all streaming or Siri-ing or YouTubing. Hell, back in my day...

You have a point, a person cannot successfully challenge authority if they have no rationality nor respect for evidence.

Part of the problem is their disrespect for evidence is so great it becomes a denial of reality found in mental illness.

Personally I'm fond of @cstross working hypothesis that it is caused by future shock.

Everyone everywhere should read Alvin and Heidi Toffler. Reading Future Shock (1970) changed my whole way of seeing the world and now that I'm reading The Third Wave (1980) I can see that it's they that are great, not just one of their books. Seriously, do yourself a favor and read their stuff. Put a longer scope on your time horizon, bro.
