Another one of #scotland 's heroes who spoke #gàidhlig as his native tongue: Rob Roy MacGregor. While he had been taught English, this was his second language.

@Freyalyn @AeonMach My favourite bit is the words which I assume are Indo-European and you suddenly spot the cognate!

When I first came across #gàidhlig I was surprised at how alien it looked/sounded compared to #cymraeg, as it appeared much more distant than the various Romance or Germanic languages to each other.

It now feels less alien, but I am looking forward to when I know it in its own right and it has its own colour in my mind and taste in my mouth.

Today's joyful commonality between #cymraeg and #gàidhlig: "y tŷ bach" and "an taigh-beag".

Now that one is easy to remember!

(Non-Celtic speakers: the word for toilet in both languages translates as "small house".)
