I posted a (messy) devlog for the latest Rosewood Abbey update.

Playing tableturf I also came to wonder what would happen if cards were shared between games. The idea is simple:
When leveling up, scoring a new hiscore, completing a game, etc the player would be rewarded with an card. that card would have the players name on it and the bigger the achievement the stronger the card. This cards can be traded with and collected by players inorder to play some card game with them.

I've been playing a lot of slaptoon 3 lately and I'm really enjoying the card collection game called "tableturf". The cards are collected through out the main game, mainly as rewards for leveling up etc. This is an *so* much better reward then a skin or some other cosmetic as it gives you an real benefit in tableturf battles.
TL;DR mini card collection games are good and can help make rewards in the game more exiting

For Oppy, generation is progressed through multiple passes [Noise > Terrain > Detail Objects > Terrain Details > Water > Color]. So it is possible to generate elements separately and optimize generation time vastly. Currently, we are able to achieve 130-140 fps in the editor for a 1000x1000 terrain [with a 65x65 detail & color map and 256x256 heightmap & thousands of detail objects] generation time of 1-2 seconds with whole generation passes. #unity3d #gamedev #gamedesign

Okay, I'm trying to decide which name I like better for the TTRPG I'm developing. Help me decide.
Which works better for the name of a TTRPG based on medieval fighting and low tier fantasy?

I don't want to flame out with early enthusiasm, but for #Playdate #gamedesign with its beensy form factor I think that sound design and music have outsized utility. I never had a gameboy, but if I did I suspect I'd know if this hunch was right.
Either way, we're excited if only to noodle with a gadget that is interesting to both of us.

I have a rule to test my game:
do it at different times, when I'm in a different mood
- when I'm tired or when I just woke up
- when I'm hungry or when I've eaten
- when I'm sad or happy...
Because different moods allow me to look at the gameplay a little differently

Hey #gamedev / #gamedesign folks! What's a good free app for mind maps/flows/etc?
I've used Miro, but they have 3 editable board max for the free version, so it's not really suitable if I want to have a bunch of files to dump random ideas to. Doesn't necessarily need to be shared, but fine if it is.
I guess I could also use Google Drawings or even Canva, but I want to know what else is out there.
I'm celebrating 10+ years of making (officially released) games! Enjoy this supercut of 30 games in 60 seconds! 🎉

Spooky season is fast upon us, and with it, a jam! Starting Monday, you can submit your supplements for Bump in the Dark:. hunts, new playbooks, bespoke settings, a piece of short fiction, a piece of LONG fiction, pretty much everything is welcome!

My buddy and I have put a lot of thought into our little pet project TTRPG, and it's actually shaping into something I'm quite proud of.
It's gone from silly little rules lite zine to fully fledged game.
I'm actually considering trying to get it published instead of just going with print on demand. Though I have no idea where to even start...

Having done #GameDesign for #TTRPG content for like a decade now, I will definitely say that the average player of these games doesn't actually understand balance or the lack thereof. To balance a game, you have to do calculus on #statistics, then decide how far you are willing to let mechanics deviate within those calculations...
...and the trade-off is that the closer you try to get things to zero deviation, the harder it is to keep the #game interesting and fun.

Here's a #gameDesign thought: a #roguelike (run-based game with no meta power progression) emphasizes the competence gain of the player, while a #roguelite (run-based game with meta power progression) emphasizes the competence gain of the avatar.
Find more context on competence (self-determination theory), its place in AAA and F2P markets, the effort of play, as well as the procedural rhetoric of games here: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1698703049571639327.html
