Me before making games: Why do smaller devs have so much trouble updating games? I bought the game in GoG but it's not getting updates but Steam is?

Me making games now: Oh god I have four different game versions built on two different engines and also I have to deal with Steam's mess of a pipeline to update anything... did I make that bugfix in this version yet? Oh crap, that's the wrong engine version for the web build. Where did I save the Google Play build files at?

I'm so sorry for ever doubting you, gamedevs 😭​
