I had been using a python script for this but gave up when it over smoothed everything, and eventually got better results using World Creator, which I paid for a months subscription for. It wasn’t easy to get right here either, but I’ve now got erosion features I am mostly happy with. I think the “scale” of these features is still wrong, the Moonshea isles are as big as Great Britain, so the valleys should be smaller than seen here #Faerun #roleplaying #ttrpg #gamemaps

It’s fun to look at other projections, which you can easily convert the equirectangular map into with free software such as G.Projector over at NASA. Very early work in progress for a under mountain dwarf city map that I’m experimenting with a new style for. Near future LA nightclub tactical map commission for Freddie Prinze Jnr I did last year. Founded on a bay surrounded by mountains, the city has clear districts with the most affluent building rising high into the sky on the hillsides. I eventually settled for less muted colours than I experimented with, but with some lovely cool tones contrasting nicely with the reds and pinks of the buildings. IRL, I'm an #archaeologist and #GIS analyst. So I spend a lot of time looking at and working with #maps.
But I've also employed GIS in #gaming. Here I've created a hex grid over a land-use map of a lakeside subdivision near my home. I then used that as a basis for creating "Lakeside Subdivision", a map you can find in the #opensource computer version of #BattleTech, #MegaMek.
