@cosmo I do all my gaming with #amdgpu on #Wayland nowadays. #Gamescope works just fine.
No idea what Broadcast is. I make this all work with virtual audio devices and some OBS magic.
Recording tho? Nah… forget it. Vaapi just sucks. I got an XR1 Lite to do this job externally with a dedicated system.
Having a mini PC with limited graphical horsepower connected to a 4k TV has made me realize just how valuable #gamescope is as a backend. You literally HAVE to run some games windowed at lower resolutions, which even at 1080p doesn't fill up the whole TV real estate. Gamescope would fix this, and have a built in AMD FSR upscaler to boot.
Problem is, what drivers would I use for an alder lake N100 on arch linux, and would they even support gamescope to begin with?
Hot damn, I just tried #gamescope outside of the context of #steamdeck for the first time since it works on Nvidia cards now and the sheer amount of resolution issues it fixes with older games is astounding.
Like, something such as pic related would probably never happen in gamescope because as far as the game is concerned, it's displaying in full screen.
Why isn't this just... normal for PC gaming, why does only Linux have gamescope? It seems like "Yeah no shit you sandbox fullscreen, duh!"
What's even funnier is that #SteamOS actually ships with its own #gamescope browser (in addition to the #Chrome they offer to install as example of non-Steam app), since the whole UI is built in top of one, and to can actually see it in action when you visit e.g. your user profile. But for some reason they don't expose it as a browser (not even as an isolated thing to not mess with your Steam profile). Weird. I suppose it's to reduce support costs.
(I'm not sure if this would fix the specific issue of browsing the Internet on the #SteamDeck: the whole display management situation under #gamescope is quite crazy. My understanding is that it's a Wayland compositor running inside an X server and providing isolated X(Wayland) servers to the clients, to improve separation.)
And I do know that #Firefox has touchscreen support too, but making sure it works correctly isn't really as straightforward as it ought to be: on #X11 you need to force-enable Xinput2 support, or alternatively you have to force the use of the #Wayland backend. And both of these things are made exceedingly complicated on the #SteamDeck due to a combination of factors including the use of #flatpak and the SteamOS Wayland compositor (#gamescope) being what it is.

#VR on #Nobara works pretty well, surprisingly. It is a bit crashy overall. I’ve thrown it into #gamescope so it doesn’t take my whole system with it. All of this is on an #NVIDIA GPU. #LinuxGaming
