Moving on to G games with Gravwell.

Each round, you draft a hand of movement cards that pull you toward, or repel you from, the nearest object. You choose which cards to play simultaneously, in secret, and sort of rubber band your way around the spiral, hoping that your ship will fly in the direction you intended.

Our finish was a real nail-biter. Purple was one space from victory, then blue, and then finally purple crossed the finish to win.

They had the Cartographers Deluxe Edition in the game library, so I was able to try it out.

Spatial visualization is not easy for me, especially with 9:00 pm brain, so I was surprised by how close the final scores were (79 vs. 74). My expert forestry and attention to diagonals served me well. Drawing monsters on my opponent’s map was definitely the best part. Muhuhaha

@peterdrake ‘s verdict: “Kingdom Builder, but flip and write.” Fair.

My first 4-player game of Above and Below was terrific fun. I finished last, with an abysmal score, but…

Our new player comically kept finding himself in scenarios where he had to steal and lose reputation!

We collectively explored so hard that we almost ran out of cave cards!

I repaired Metal Man, so he joined my party!

On my last exploration, I went for the greedy option and got two goods worth 7 points!

As is often the case, the training strategy was victorious.

Canopy was my new game for the day. Each turn, you look at three piles of cards in sequence. If you pass on a pile, you sweeten it for the next person by adding a card. The cards are trees, plants, animals, weather, etc. that mix and match to score points.

I didn’t exactly set out to build such a giant tree, but it took me forever to find a canopy card to cap it.

I liked it enough to order the deluxe version. Let’s hear it for supporting hometown publishers!

Fast & Furious: Highway Heist was the perfect way to close out our F weeks.

Playing as Roman in the Tank Assault, I twice leapt onto enemy SUVs and steered them into the tank. When my own car was pummeled sufficiently, we also threw it under for more damage.

@peterdrake is fond of saying that this game is better than it has any right to be. He is so right! I am usually lukewarm on expansions, but I really wish this had some.

The big problem with Kites is that there’s no time during the game to appreciate the gorgeous artwork on the cards.

We were hoping to play with more than our usual two, but did not get any takers. Even with our “old marrieds” shared brain super powers, we only won half our games.

Mandala has become one of my favorite two-player games. It reminds me of Lost Cities, but harder, meaner, and faster.

We kicked off Friday at #GameStorm with some 4-player Flamme Rouge.

This is hands down my favorite racing game. It’s fast-paced, with everyone fully engaged at every moment, and the hills make for some deliciously agonizing deck management.

It took me a long time to learn, but you must not fear exhaustion! Exhaustion is proof that you’re racing to win!

Had a fabulous 9-player game of Formula Dé on the Portland circuit. Later, I was in first place coming out of the final turn when my car disintegrated.

#GameStorm is making some good efforts on #accessibility. Some of the signage is using the OpenDyslexic font and these swag tokens have ridges on the edges so blind people can distinguish the denominations.

Biggest standout from a tour of the main room at #GameStorm: there's a lot of Ark Nova being played.
