On September 9, 1995, 28 years ago, Sony unleashed a gaming revolution in North America by releasing the PlayStation console!

The release of the PlayStation introduced us to iconic titles like "Final Fantasy VII," "Metal Gear Solid," and "Resident Evil.”

The PlayStation also brought with it the CD format, replacing cartridges. The PlayStation became a symbol of gaming excellence.

What was your favourite PlayStation game?

One of my favorite stories in is when Microsoft offered to buy Nintendo and they literally laughed. Imagine having that level of confidence as a company that you can just laugh in Microsoft's face.

The Battle Vortex Audio Show
Ultima Online is a wonder. World of Warcraft debuted in 2004; Ultima Online started in 1997. And it's still going!

When it was new podcasts were not yet a thing! Podcasts arose from the fusion of periodic MP3 audio content and RSS feeds, in October 2000. Yet when UO was new there was

Gaming History:
It’s generally been a rule of thumb that PC hardware is more powerful than consoles with more demanding games. The second generation of consoles had a small edge on PCs of the late 80s and early 90s. While still on paper, more powerful. Consoles like the Nintendo Entertainment system were capable of smooth side scrolling. While PCs at the time could not. It wasn’t till the early 90’s with smart programming could PCs emulate the proper technique.

Gaming History:
The first video game. It’s a topic that’s more complicated than anyone might think. And it all starts with what one would define a video game as. Is it any device that responds to feed back through electric signals ? Is it a program on a computer that plays by rules ? Does it need to display anything on a screen ? Depending upon your criteria the answer can change . There are examples the stretch back to the 40s! But I can say it’s definitely not Pong!

Gaming History:
Sega was founded in 1945 as Standard Games by 3 Americans, HQ’d in Hawaii. The company was setup to build and sell slot machines to US bases in Japan. A year later they rebranded to Service Games. In 52 SEGA moved to Japan. Sega would be split up and sold several times including to Gulf Western and Bally! Sega went from making slot machines to distributing and eventually making arcade games. Japanese investors fully took over the business in the mid 80s.

that Nintendos video game icon was named after the US attorney John Joseph Kirby.

In 1983, Universal Studios had sued , claiming their game marked a trademark infringement of their brand. John helped Nintendo to win that case, and was rewarded with... a sailboat christened "Donkey Kong" as well as the "exclusive worldwide rights to use the name for sailboats". 😂

Gaming historian friends , debate question:
Do you think if Nintendo stuck with the original Sony deal Nintendos dominance would have continued ? Or was Nintendo right to walk away ?

Some “recent” gaming history for your day:

In the wake of poor WiiU and 3DS sales then Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata took full responsibility for the problems. The company was losing money and drastic measures were expected to be taken. Iwata agreed to take a pay cut to prevent anyone at else at the company from being laid off. Seeing how the job market is today we can see how truly one of a kind Iwata was.
