So @Mastodon is now running v4.2.0+pr-26409-f82b3c9 with the new integrated "Local" "Federate" buff that joins the two together into one banner at the top of the center column
Got it?
So if I click on "Live feeds" over in the right sidebar, and click on "Other servers" ("These are the most recent public posts from people on the social web that people on mastodon.social follow") how many clicks do I need to find some #LoliPorn on #Misskey dot io?
Three?
How about one
#loliporn #Misskey #gargron #progress #new
huh...
Look at that
Mastodon dot social is featuring a straight-up ad to increase your Instagram account with the best hashtags to get you Likes and Follows
Who needs #Meta when you got #MastodondotSocial and #Gargron pimping for #Instagram already?

#Facebook is not just going to have its own instances for #Project92. I think it'll have a client that works with #Mastodon and pay #Gargron to integrate their APIs including ads and automated moderation into Mastodon itself. Optional, but very tempting to the strapped admin struggling with spam and hosting payments.

@jo Even more than this, I am starting to wonder if there’s a little obsessiveness over ousting tankies? Happy to be schooled on this, if you’re progressive/left, I feel like there’s a natural mode of tolerance and acceptance, especially if they’re pro-FOSS, fediverse, and anti-facist,racist?
Like, how capitalist is #gargron or some other big admins and how helpful on the BIPOC issues here have they been? Are we going to cancel them too?
Genuinely curious and a little befuddled here.
@oblomov @darnell @atomicpoet @Gargron @Mastodon
Yea, it's a nice idea, except #gargron has little influence over other generic instances.
My general read on #mastodon's movements lately is that it's taking it's brand and product a tad more seriously now, which involves stretching out and flexing it's muscles a bit more. It's so big though that a little push from mastodon is huge for the fediverse.
mastodon's reality: App + mastodon.social + software stack = a brand, full product & UX.

"So, since JoinMastodon.org has decided to change the way servers are listed on their website — showing preference for large servers..."
And guess who's right up on top, right out front?
You know
The one with the "official" "Mastodon" "app" that automatically signs up new users on -- wait for it -- #MastodonSocial
#Gargron's own instance
Big surprise there
i am not a fan of screen-dunking.
divorced of context, they can create an impression of directed action where none exists.
however, on occasion they can be informative, especially when one is pointing out a pattern of behaviour.
here then, and not intending to dunk on anyone, is #gargron in June 2018, when, apropos of almost nothing at all, he indicates his own beliefs on people telling him what to do with his software.
nothing has changed between then and now. nothing at all.
so Eugen Rochko aka #gargron comments on this accusation and the out-of-context screenshot here:
@ngaylinn @fediversenews @hosting so imposing this choice from the beginning really is unnecessary. But, getting everyone onto the top 3 servers (as #gargron acknowledges) kinda defeats the point of the federated safety feature.
So there are questions about how to have the best of both worlds.
Interesting revelation from #gargron in recent interview on server choices for newcomers (https://www.theverge.com/23658648/mastodon-ceo-twitter-interview-elon-musk-twitter)
“However, I think that possibly going forward, we might rework the onboarding user experience into **presenting a default option as well as an advanced option, where all that stuff with choosing a server would basically be hidden away from the people who get intimidated by choice**.”
Can Mastodon seize the moment from Twitter?

Cat Eye of Sauron
As one of the most powerful Kittehs, Cat Eye of Sauron was created by Charles Schulz before the Music of the Stray Cats. At the beginning of Nap Time, he was amongst the Furry Thugs who entered into any available empty box. Here he became one of the Cat Emperors of Mastodon, among whose people he was deemed mighty and surpassed only by the Gargron himself, and was known as King Kitten.

Mastodon has a barrier to entry with the first step being to choose a server. What if existing users had an invite link they could share which completed this first step and moved directly to account creation? #Gargron
