One more fun #manuscript image for today, just because it's cool: a sermon on the apostle Thomas written in #Malayalam #Garshuni, also called Suriyani Malayalam (a version of the Syriac alphabet adapted for writing Malayalam). From the ms APSTCH PIRA 00011. (Note: I do not read Malayalam! Luckily the title is in Syriac.)
#manuscript #Malayalam #garshuni
BUT, notice that Bar Bahlul's definition ends with الهجاة in #Arabic , which in Syriac would be written ܐܠܗܓܐܗ, and I think I see a faded ܗ at the every edge of the page. And Syriac ܣܪܘܫܝ is a close misspelling for ܣܪܘܫܘܝ, the name of the person cited in abbreviated form in Bar Bahlul's dictionary! So I think this manuscript originally included the full entry from Bar Bahlul (headword and definition), with the Arabic written in Syriac script (i.e. as #Garshuni).
It's nicer when I can solve mysteries rather than merely documenting them.
