Gas storage across Europe is now filled at just under 90% capacity, reaching a mandatory target to ensure the continent can power itself through winter with months to spare.

The target to fill gas storage to 90% capacity by 1 November 2023 was set last year, weeks after Russia invaded Ukraine, as energy prices were starting their climb to new record levels and over fears Moscow could turn off the gas tap.

Most folks don't get how critical gas storage is, particularly for the #LABasin. Without it gas deliveries, particularly in winter, can get disrupted during extreme cold and high demand. Think Texas freeze. And its not like gas storage can be done anywhere--it relies on geological formations (vs building housing there). Yes, we need to phase FF out, but fully closing Aliso would create large risk without reliable substitute infrastructure

A 🆕 Commission report on the implementation of the gas storage regulation was published today. It praises EU countries' efforts in achieving 94.9% storage level by 1/11/2022 and for remaining high ever since.

The situation regarding #gas supply in #Austria is difficult. Although the #gasstorage facilities are 93% full and could supply us in the coming winter season.
However, only 56% of these are owned by Austrian companies.
So there can definitely be problems - and I think that's wrong.
