Am #Sonntag wurde das 30. Internationale #Brühtrogrennen des Veranstalters #Freiwillige #Feuerwehr #Nankendorf am Feuerwehrplatz erfolgreich ausgetragen. Insgesamt gingen um 14 Uhr nach und nach viele #Teams an den Rennstart und zeigten mit Spaß und guter Laune vollen Körpereinsatz. Viele #Besucher, #Radfahrer und #Wanderer kamen, um sich das Rennen auf der #Wiesent bei uns in der #FränkischenSchweiz anzusehen.

Nearing the end of #Barcelona, with a few additional buildings of interest around town. #Gaudi and his followers had a lot of influence on the vernacular of the city, so there are a bunch of interesting examples to see. This is a bag of mixed nuts: two modernist townhouses (somewhat blocked by trees), a Gaudi apartment building, a bull ring that has been repurposed as a shopping mall, and a waterfront restaurant that sports a wavy fish designed by Frank #Gehry.

Final pics from Sagrada Familia! This is what counts as Normal Church Stuff for this amazing place -- still plenty of abstract shapes and unusual curves, and nothing like the ornate worked gold altarpieces that greeted us everywhere else in Spain. But ok, church. 😆

I took So Many Photos of the inside of this church! While the outside(s) are heavy stone, the interior is light and airy, abstracted trees and futuristic details. I decided to break this into two sets of photos -- the first captures all the aspects that make it feel like a set for a science fiction movie, and the second the parts that make clear that it's still a church...

Here's the second side of Sagrada Familia, this one devoted to the Crucifixion and related events. It's quite different from the other side, and it's clear that the vision and designs of subsquent architects have extended whatever #Gaudi specified. The sculptures are notably abstract and contemporary -- I think they were added in the 1980s.

This is the first side completed, under Gaudi's oversight -- he eventually lived in the basement to stay on top of it. The theme of the entire face is Jesus' birth, so there are many aspects of that story spelled out in what is, overall, a totally overwhelming facade. I mean, I've never seen anything like it! Designed in the 1880s and being built ever since (faster since charging tourists for visits), it manages to feel futuristic even today. Giving this one its due will take several posts, so apologies if it's not your cup of tea. The main/front entry hasn't even been begun, but the sides, interior, and towers are amazing to see. Gaudi is maybe Art Nouveau +....

#ThrowBackThursday to my Barcelona trip a couple of years ago. Gaudi's architectural style just blew me away! This golden swirling circular ceiling chandelier in Casa Batllo is the central interior decor, providing warm light to one of Gaudi's architectural masterpieces.

Since work began 141 years ago, the Sagrada Família has become almost as famous for its endless works as for its magnificent architecture. Now nearby residents face being evicted if the construction is completed, but are doubtful a decision be made before this month's key local elections.
