If you're like me, your computer might have a folder full of record images (birth, marriage, death certificates, etc.); it's not hard to imagine asking an AI script to process that folder of records and generate a sourced family tree ( file) suggesting the relationships between everyone mentioned in the folder.

It's going to be a crazy year.

Loving the new --now with proper source citations! A personal that processes files & generates reports. It even matches narrative styles to settings for authentic family tales! It handles sources in GEDCOM files & creates footnotes/endnotes, no hallucinations. Can't wait for visual record text extraction & handwriting recognition!

can create, read, and interpret files with ease. I tested it with a simple ("Create a GEDCOM file for John Smith, born 1863, father unknown, mother was Riley Bower") and it generated a flawless GEDCOM file. To test, I imported it into , with no issues. Plus, crafted a family story from a 4-gen GEDCOM export. PROMPT: "Below is a GEDCOM file. Use the information in the file to write a biographical narrative

processes visual input! Imagine creating a from a folder of record images in seconds! Soon we could drop birth, marriage, or death records into the AI for extraction, transforming them into text, stories, CSV files, and more.

At some point I know I'll need to upload a file with my family tree. I have two trees: One an unadorned tree going uphill only, no siblings, no "illegitimate fathers". The other my tree with all its fuelled flights of fancy*

Question ... which one do I inflict on Gedcom users?

*Note: "flights of fancy" = "Carefully honed hypotheses which let** Ancestry identify extra common ancestor matches"

**Note 2: "Let" = "Frogmarches ... "

i.e. simple or not?

Bit genealogy problem I'm wrestling with ... Many genealogy programs create "Descendants of" text-based narrative reports. They all have a formulaic structure and work from the oldest generation to the youngest. I have quite a few but I no longer have the database that created them. Are there any tools that can "scrape" the data into an or format? Or even go part-way there? @genealogy @geneadons

I am migrating a MacOS Reunion based file that is uploaded into , with an on-going task of linking Ancestry citations (with URLs) to their respective Ancestry sources. Over two thousand sources to convert 😅
The advantage is I can review and clean up any fact data, e.g. occupations, residence addresses from census etc but it is a shame Ancestry doesn’t use quality of data; primary/secondary source etc etc

I use to synchronize my folder with the data files (.cent) from PC to my notebook and back. Working fine.

I'm not that happy about the export. I hope this will be improved next year.

@sheribush @david @genealogy IMHO Family Historian has always been way ahead of Rootsmagic (7 or 8) and I have tried both. FH7 holds its data in Gedcom format too so your data is not locked away in some proprietary database. Product support from the manufacturers is excellent but the user group FHUG fhug.org.uk/ is a real bonus.

Unfortunately, looks like it was just a rumor
Not seeing anything on the wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Apps
Here is a walkthrough for doing the GEDCompare process:
wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Curren
Just did a small as a test, since it's been almost five years since my first one
Works good
There are some other tools to create biographies & the sourcer app which is wonderful for grabbing sources from etc

I have some time off from work coming up. Instead of working on brick walls, I’m going to tackle my “Plausibility Report”. It’s a nice way for desktop software that deals with files to say your research and your conclusions are rubbish and you should give up this hobby. There are areas I’ve found and tackled on my own over the years but the amount of junk I introduced when I was just starting without 1st or 2nd sourcing embarrasses me. To inspire you, I’ll share the worst.

The website are now done and I am really happy with result! But more work is needed. As of now, the website is not using any database, but it is planned to store all the data encrypted in a database for easier process.

The website will be released later today (Thursday), if I don't find any bugs that needs to be fixed first.

By the way. Anyone here who knows a GitHub project that can get the path of an image from a GEDCOM file?
