A conversation I had with @dachary the other day about reviewing Pull Requests has come back to haunt me.

I just "approved" a PR in GitHub. I left comments about things I'd like to see changed, but it was all "nice-to-have" and not worth blocking the merge.

D's perspective was more "if i believe it should be changed, I'm going to 'request changes'"

I don't think either of us is "right".

What's your approach?

⚠️ sometimes things that should _always_ have a user, don't. For example. A Review or a Comment have to be left by a user, even if that user is a bot, but sometimes the returned data doesn't contain it.

Apparently, when a user deletes their account, GitHub leaves dangling pointers. You'll see this in the UI, but on the back end it's just data with an impossible state. They don't repoint things to this "ghost" account

our codebase has "snippets" (don't ask ) that have a hardcoded central list.

if you add or delete to the list (which of course you need to from time to time) multiple tests fail because they're testing "magic numbers" that are just counting subsets of the list.

don't do this.

make make meaningful tests. Don't test that a list contains 96 items. Test that a FUNCTION returns items matching the criteria that generated it. Give the function TEST input and then test how it response.

adding a "Power Up" isn't an option in my use case and they don't have a reasonable API for users so ... screen scraping, but calling the url of a "card" with your cookie doesn't actually get you the content of the card. ARGH

I can figure this out, but i'd rather not reinvent the wheel if i don't have to.
