@MarkoHelgenko https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemini_(protocol) -
@risottobias I get what you are saying.
The protocol aims to either send the format #Gemtext, which provides a simpler #markdown format, else what is refers to as a 'binary', which would be a file which has no (direct) syntax assumptions.
But back to your point there was a recent conversation in this matrix room that touches upon that topic (somewhat):
https://matrix.to/#/#fediverse-city:matrix.org
It involves @quilnux@mastodon.fulltermprivacy.com and @strypey
@vintprox @rickcarlino Just create a Makefile to empower your client in the background and send a Growl type notification and be done with it.
#Gemtext is marvellous in its simplicity - it and #Koutliner (which is an Emacs format) serve the majority of my needs nicely.
You can add rules and inferences that other markdown or non markdown formats cant do because they have non minimal rules in place.
Adding complexity to #Gemini and Gemtext kills capacity to experiment and improvise.
#Gemtexter, my static site generator written in #Bash for #Gemini #Gemtext, HTML and Markdown, now also supports rudimentary templating. Following the one-blog-post-per-month schedule on https://foo.zone, I shall release Gemtexter 2.0.0 next month. https://codeberg.org/snonux/gemtexter. Other languages, like Perl, Raku, Ruby, would be much more suitable for this task. But the challenge is, to do everything in "clean Bash" and be forced to keep it minimalistic :-)

I agree to this approach. But I count #Markdown and #Gemtext also as text files.
So, keep it simple: https://foo.zone/gemfeed/2021-09-12-keep-it-simple-and-stupid.html
Installed a #gemini server yesterday on a laptop and decided to learn #gemtext. Turned out it takes about 90 seconds to learn gemtext and spent a little time experimenting with different text formatting and how it looked in the browser.

Why should I need to switch clients when following an FTP or #Gemini URL in an #HTTP-served #HTML page, or conversely when following an HTTP link from a #Gemtext page? Why shouldn't my Gemini client be able to render HTML pages delivered over the Gemini protocol, and my web browser able to render #Gemtext natively if served over HTTP?
This is why the “swiss army knife” browser model is essential to the #openInternet, and a fortiori for the #openWeb.

Show me your #minimalism #blogs please 🙏
I'm looking a writing in #gemtext. For bloggers out there, do you set a cadence? Or publish when ready?
@dthompson pretty neat! Interesting to see it uses #gemtext and extends it a bit, but doesn’t include a #gemini server. First time I’ve seen Gemtext used independently.
🤖 I am once again reminded that the post preceding this one could not have been written in #gemini with #gemtext. In source, it’s 5 rows of Markdown. With gemtext I’d have to use at least the double, and mess up my prose with long URLs. And of course, the kicker, I could not accurately have reproduced the title of the penultimate link (no italics in gemtext!). ⤵️

I wrote an #awk script to reduce the width of my emails written in #gemtext. It is called gmipp as in gmi pretty print. https://si3t.ch/log/2023-02-07-pretty-print-gemtext.xhtml #gemini

I'm obsessed with CGI. I've ripped off @cblgh's beautiful work on cerca and built a web forum that stores content in plaintext and is stupid-simple to host. Posts are written in #gemtext.

I use Focuswriter and Notepad++ to write my gemini capsule. I like Focuswriter because I do long form fiction and the themability, and yes the typewriter noises, are nice. The fact it does not recognize gemtext annoys me.
Any ideas?
It is easy to miss the point of attaching images in the first place. #Gemtext wants me to put image as a link, and I rather like it. No need for special formatting nor people clearly forgetting to rename the very file they are linking in #plaintext. Once reader downloads it, they'll have a planned and legible file name without needing to ensure it's not something as generic as "image1.jpg", "download.png", and so on.
Yeah, but there'll always be #ThatGuy who wants to fill the #Fediverse with sugar, for example #CalcKey and #MissKey. And I'm glad #Mastodon doesn't integrate any of that.
Using #plaintext and #gemtext to express my #thoughts was refreshing to me. Never did I need to think about stealing the focus of reader from the whole paragraph to mere 2 bold words, nor did I need to use any #formatting workarounds. Pure #content!
