If a group of people were to suspend disbelief for a minute, create a superhero team and set up a straightforward licensing structure and a nominal fee (representing skin in the game) for other creators to produce "bootlegs" (ala the Gen13 run) we'd have the groundwork for a proper independent comicbook franchise to start a rising tide outside Marvel/DC's grip.
