New drivers license came in the mail: gender marker X. I don't look any "better" in the new photo or even very different, though my hair is shorter now. But the previous photo was taken sometime in June 2016, on my way to a burlesque gig, at a time when being or just seeming to be a burlesque performer felt more and more impossible and every show was something to grit my teeth through. I'm glad to formally let that self, that image of myself go.

A few months ago I did a cursory search on "voice training trans men" & apparently the basic idea is that you should flatten your speech. To which I say fuck that, I was a theater kid, my intonation is practiced & purposeful & I like the way I sound. So even if I eventually "pass" in some narrow sense, I will always read (to the cishets) as Probably A Homosexual. To which I say oh well? It's not like going stealth will be an option anymore.

I've become more comfortable referring to myself as a man/boy/guy/what have you, but it always feels a bit camp to do so. I'm a really, really bad candidate for the "born in the wrong body" narrative. T's been great, really digging it so far, but there's no innate sense of authentic boyhood over here. The thing about #FTM transition is you can put on feminine signifiers, but you can't take them off. Pre-T, trying to look more masculine landed me somewhere between "unconventional woman" & "12yr-old boy."
