Remembering another miner who lost his life in the Cadeby Colliery explosion in 1912.
On the 1911 census John’s occupation was a Ripper below ground and he lived with his wife Florence (nee Dunning) who was from Denaby aged 20 and his 11month daughter Edna. They lived at 66, Ravensfield Street, Denaby. They had only been married for two years.
John died on 9th July 1912 Cadeby Main Colliery age 26. He was buried on 12th July 1912, Denaby Main Cemetery. #cadeby #geneaolgy #history

Famous Doncastrian: Walter Owen Bentley
Walter Owen Bentley (16 Sep 1888 – 3 Aug 1971), was the founder of the prestige Bentley Motors company. He can be seen in the centre of this photo to the right. Aged 16, he set off on his bicycle to work at the Great Northern Railway Locomotive Works in Doncaster, northern England to become an apprentice railway engineer with the Great Northern Railway at Doncaster Plant Works. #history #geneaolgy
