Member’s Meeting – Michael Massarella – His Family (in the room)
July 26 @ 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM Castle Park, Armthorpe Road
Michael will tell us how his family lived, very much like Italians, with the food and social gatherings and always with family.
He doesn’t call it a talk because it is really a story, a story of why the family emigrated and how they survived and built up very successful businesses.

This week's pic is of my great grandmother and her husband (I never knew him). You may remember his face. I put up a pic of the two of them as an older couple with their son a couple of weeks ago. Here they are as young people with all their lives ahead of them.

It is not known who fathered Cecil, but Tissot biographer and BBC TV Antiques Roadshow expert Christopher Wood doubts that Tissot was the father.
Tissot's domestic arrangements would not cause any fuss now, but the idea of him living with an unmarried mother of two illegitimate children shocked and scandalised strait-laced Victorian society and as a result Tissot and Kathleen were shunned.

This building is 6 1/2 miles south of Whitchurch just outside of a small village. I wonder how it functioned as a Laundry in the late Nineteenth Century.

Just completed another soldier study for "Who do you think you are?". I doubt this one will make it to the screen, unless being sent home and discharged due to haemorrhoids forms a central part of the story.

Researched: Clare man James McGrath, who lived in Colchester by the Great War. Joined Army Ordnance Corps May 1915 and served overseas, but was transferred to Class P Army Reserve due to sickness in June 1917. Finally discharged June 1918. All traced thanks to electoral roll!
