10 Million Names is building a free public database of enslaved people of African descent in what's now the US (1500-1865). A network of genealogists, cultural orgs, & historians to connect with people inquiring about family history. Data entry began in August & will grow.

Third stop on #geneology tour nc to noGA. On the journey a religious conversion —-likely due to perceived economic and social necessity —-from #quaker to #Methodist. Others stayed in #piedmont of #northCarolina. Others moved on out of the #South to #indiana and other points north and west of the #MasonDixon line

Never said this before but because my dad was 100% Portuguese and mom Irish/German, I technically am not a “Boomer white dude.”

But there is usually never a box to check off for “Beige.”

Ancestry is the weirdest thing. I’ve been able to trace back to 410 AD with a couple of family branches, but at the same time I’ve hit brick walls with other branches. Sometimes the roadblock is phonetic spelling. But a few of centuries ago some people married 2-3x if their spouses died. #geneology

24.1% Vizsla
16.6% American Staffordshire Terrier
14.8% American Pit Bull Terrier
15.7% “Supermutt” w/ trace DNA from German shepherd, Beagle, Chihuahua

But ultimately she is 💯% perfect!

John Todd of the colonial 1745? Orchid, Louisa Co Presbyterian church. (Log Cabin seminary/Princeton). Clan Todd headed to Kentucky also…And thence West, continuing to evangelize. Mary Todd Lincoln of that tribe. Daughter has also been bit by the #geneology bug. We are having fun!

It’s not just what you eat, but the time of day you eat it.

Eat in the morning: #scottish breakfast. Bagel and lox with a schmear of Neufchâtel. Leftover pizza. #southern breakfast : grits, cornbread or biscuit, bacon, egg. #Elevenses: Christmas rumball or shortbread with tea.

In the South, farmers’ lunch is “dinner”. Skip evening meal and have a whisky or wine, fall asleep watching a rerun or doing #geneology.
