When I speak of THIS is what I mean. Not random divs floating over poorly chosen fonts.

@albinotree thanks for pointing out that paper! I own Liebermans "your wish is my command" which is fantastic so it makes sense that he would be apart of history! I like to look at the history of programming through a syncretic alchemical lens in which I can categorize languages as left hand or right hand path. inspired languages are left hand (they are willing to sacrifice total control of memory for expressivity). Right hand languages (total control of memory and strict typing) have just never done it for me. That said languages like , and further , are probably middle path which is cool. The real of and though is the editing environment programmer experience. The only word I have come up with to describe it is . All that said probably wins. I just cant stand the syntax. Bury me in parens.

@nil You mentioned and in the same toot. I kept thinking what is common between those. Then I realized its not "What", its "Who". Henry Lieberman ( web.media.mit.edu/~lieber/ ), one of those MIT AI Lab hackers.

His paper "There's More to Menu Systems Than Meets the Screen, Henry Lieberman, ACM SigGraph '85" describes his EZWin system, which heavily inspired Dynamic Windows on , and later .

His paper "Using Prototypical Objects to Implement Shared Behavior in Object-Oriented Systems, first OOPSLA 86" describes a prototype based OO system in Lisp, which the Self author cite in their original Self paper.

Fun video of Kalman Reti using Genera for his daily problem solving youtube.com/watch?v=sfgjL7EUHZ ... also a super useful example of what the workflows on Genera are supposed to look like

Went down the whole "Portable Genera 2.0 exists with a ton of bug fixes and features, runs on ARM and x64, but Gary Palter can't release it to the world because the IP licensing situation is still unresolved" rabbit hole and sheesh ... that's a little frustrating to know it's there and ready to go but noone can have it.

The curious lives of computing artifacts as they traverse decades in an inert state only to wake up in the year 2023 … welcome home little LISP machine <3

We’ll, I guess it’s time for an .

I’ve been a professional developer for just shy of 50 years now. From writing support software for and helping to design a candidate language for the competition at my first job to developing learning apps for early childhood in at Learning Touch, I’ve pretty much seen it all.

I guess my two favorite endeavors were working at and on and then at on .

I’ll have more to say soon.

@nodefunallowed@mas.to There is this: twitter.com/RainerJoswig/statu

I wish I could go back in time to be a fly on the wall and listen to why this seemed like a useful project at the time. My guess is it was meant to make the transition to LispM easier for some customers.
