Humans were on the brink of extinction in the last one million years. Approximately 99% of our ancient human ancestors may have become extinct approximately 930,000 years ago. This critical event led to a significant reduction in the human population, with estimates suggesting that only around 1,300 individuals survived this challenging period, which lasted for about 120,000 years.
