#ZarahLeander sings "Der Wind hat mir ein Lied erzählt" in Douglas Sirk's (then Detlef Sierck) 1937 film LA HABANERA. It's an extraordinary scene & breathtaking performance. Dressed in a Latin costume, but with an über-Germanic vocal style, Zarah sings about irresolute tropical desire(!). I love a good #GenreCrosser. And Zarah's cavernous #contralto voice is utterly captivating.

I've found treasures among #Remainders. A chance to discover #books I missed, overlooked, didn't spot, or ignored bec. of the hype on first publication. Not bugged by the #RemainderMark either.

Also a bit shocked at quite recent stuff that's already remaindered. (A reminder: we all get #remaindered.)

A real find was RISINGTIDEFALLINGSTAR by #PhilipHoare: a #GenreCrosser that blends memoir, travelogue & literary biography on "drowned poets, eccentric artists, queer writers, tempests & storms".
