I was playing around with geometry nodes in Blender today and managed to make this chain thing... it's not that great, but I don't have a ton of experience with geometry nodes, so I'm sorta proud of it. 🙂

It takes a curve as input and creates a chain that runs the length of it. The links *mostly* hook together. 😅

we can finally build node groups that use panels. Some aspects of this are still missing (e.g. panels in the modifier), but we're getting there!

Adding nodes just got faster in . Now, you can directly start typing to start searching when the Add menu is open. The same also applies to other node editors of course, as well as the object and modifier add menus.

Simulated color blops. Inspired by Juhani Halkomaki.

Took me a while to create a good collision solver. Every line does a 180 degree raycast on its front point. The amount of rays defines the accuracy of the solver.

Testing some different seeds and noise settings.

The colors visualize the current direction vector that moved the point.

Adjusted the collision detection, it now collides with the real geometry instead of only lines. A bit slower, but works better. Doing this only on a old laptop but it works very well :).

Generative art with geometrynodes.
Simulated multiple iterations of paint strokes. The collision detection between the strokes happens only on line-level. I want to use the stroke radius too to avoid overlaps.

Progress on a building generator that can handle pieces with varying widths. Just spawning the corner and door meshes so far. Need to figure out a good way to control the number of doors instanced, then figure out non-door walls, multiple storeys, and the roof.

Masked geo with vertex group. Procedural uvs. Transform points to uv space. Raycasted point grid to the procedural uvs. Transfer normals and position to point grid. Instance shapes on points.

UV based gun grip patterns in geometrynodes.
The original mesh gets transformed in uv space. A grid is used to distribute the points. Then those points are transformed to the original position and orientation of the basemesh.

Simulation nodes! I always do no-thinking doodle like this, & today was able to render a similar look without modelling anything! (except the plane to hold geonodes). Still don't know about UV & random/multi textures. Based on a tutorial by @johnnygizmo
