Well I wasn't expecting to get emotional watching BBC News this evening. I didn't know #GeorgeAlagiah aside from his work on BBC news, but he's been a constant for millions of people and he will be missed by all.
Very sad to hear that #GeorgeAlagiah passed away today.
When I was at Durham University he came and gave a talk as part of a series of famous alumni. My brother helped organise it, many of the speakers were self important, demanded fancy hotels and dinners, messed him about with last minute cancellations. George Alagiah stayed in the grotty student halls of residence and came down and chatted to us all at breakfast the next day. Genuinely lovely man.

One of the best presenters ever for BBC news has died. #GeorgeAlagiah. #bowelcancer 💔
Sad news about #GeorgeAlagiah. A bit disappointing to learn that people started mispronouncing his name at English boarding school and that the mispronunciation continued up until his death, when he was one of the most recognisable and trusted faces on the #BBC.
Just another example of posh white English people absolutely refusing to treat others as having equal dignity, despite their own odd posh name rules.
RIP George Alagiah, journalist.
May his memory be a blessing.
