Sad news. George Winston died earlier this month. ‘Winter into Spring’ was the first CD I ever bought back in the early 80s.
George Otis Winston (February 11, 1949 – June 4, 2023) was an American pianist who was an established contemporary instrumental music performer.
This track from ‘Summer’ is one of my favourites. It is always played at Midsummer. The photograph of a field of Sunflowers is full of golden light.
Saddened by the passing of Pianist George Winston-I have played his albums over and over again through the years, and have them in my seasonal playlists. Rest in Peace-your music lives on, and will forever.

If you are thinking that every performance of "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" sounds very different at one point?
You're right. Here's George Winston's version in 2020. I recommend his LINUS AND LUCY CD, if you like Vince Guaraldi's music & George's interpretation of it. #Jazz #GeorgeWinston #VinceGuaraldi #FolkJazz

Just wrapped up class...
Now I'm sad.
I saw him play at a benefit in Grand Rapids.
I have many of his albums.
Thank you George. You created beautiful music!
George Winston had a significant connection to Windham Hill Records. In fact, he played a crucial role in shaping the label's musical direction. WHR was founded in 1976 by guitarist William Ackerman & was known for its acoustic instrumental music, often featuring artists who blended elements of folk, jazz, and classical genres.
Here is Barbara Higbie: "The Waiting Song."

When I was in college, I worked at the Kemp Mill Records warehouse. New Age music was starting to get big, and one of the reasons for that was George Winston. I pulled record orders for the stores, and I pulled a lot of George Winston albums.
#GeorgeWinston 1949-2023 RIP
My favorite Christmas instrumental recording. I play it incessantly during the holiday season.
R.I.P. George Winston

Can't front on #GeorgeWinston -- dude made his own space and hit big with it along the way. Not many can make that claim, so RIP to him. #music https://variety.com/2023/music/news/george-winston-dead-solo-piano-instrumental-music-1235635327/
OK, so how is George Winston’s 1982 “Ocean Waves” not just a New Age rendition of 1967’s “Gentle on my Mind”?
