From horsemeat to #GeraldOfWales was but a step. (He wrote of an alleged Irish kingship ritual which involved eating horsemeat.)

(The poor state of Christianity in Ireland was one ground for the "Norman Invasion".)
Maurice, archbishop of Cashel, put him down sharply with a reference to (probably) Becket: "there is now come into our land a people who know how to make martyrs, and have frequently done it."
