When this song hit in the late 80s, we all spent several disoriented weeks asking, "Are you SURE this was a Simon and Garfunkel song? It really doesn't SOUND like a Simon and Garfunkel song..." It had been covered before and would be again, but somehow this (even more than the original) remains the definitive version.
When The Umbrella Academy was adapted for Netflix, the original creator of the comic book - Gerard Way, lead singer and songwriter for My Chemical Romance - recorded a cover of the Bangles version of the song. That's when it got stuck in my head AGAIN, and for much longer... a great track now forever associated with that magical first season:
