My own take on this: Anxiously trying to avoid risk safely guarantees failure. There's no chance at real success without taking creative risks and simply trusting creatives to make their own decisions

Slavoj Zizek voted for THE GREAT SACRIFICE (’44) in Sight & Sound’s top 10 poll both this year & 2012. So yeah, full disclosure, director Veit Harlan & wife/star Kristina Soderbaum made some pretty baaaaad Nazi propaganda films (JEW SUSS for one). This isn’t one, at least overtly. A bewitching romance/love triangle, with stunning Agfacolor bringing it all to life. Really liked how Irene von Meyendorff (potential loser in the triangle) handled it all. Ending really beautifully done. #germanfilm
