Have an article out in Fortnight Magazine this month on #gfa25 and why it felt so hollow ✏️

Tonge concluded: “It was obvious that the deal might not live happily ever after, but we are here celebrating it 25 years on, which shows its capacity to endure and survive.”

‘Before and After’: #playwrights making sense of #NorthernIreland society in change:
"The evening was a celebration of the rich legacy of Northern Irish playwrights and theatre, both during the Troubles and since. It served as a commemoration of the resiliency and ingenuity of artists who continue to create in the worst of circumstances and help make sense of a society in the midst of change."

‘An anthem to end wars’: music and poetry to commemorate #GFA25:
"Ellipses stands out as a revelatory musical and poetic celebration of the end to violence and the start of hope. If peace had a soundtrack, it might sound like Ellipses."

History of the Present: the sonic memory of voice in conflict:
Fusco explained that her intention was to explore “how history enters your body, becomes part of your body, and exits your body through voice, through song, and through spoken word.”

‘Gateway to bright future open’: #Agreement25 day three:
Taoiseach Varadkar and Prime Minister Sunak cited David Trimble’s Nobel Prize speech:
“The dark shadow we seem to see in the distance is... the shadow of the mountain behind... It is a dark sludge of historical sectarianism. We can leave it behind us if we wish.”

Last week with the spotlight on #NI, #GFA25 and those who brought it about. You were reminded of the statesmanlike qualities that Blair had. You can't deny that he had them.
I like Starmer, he seems to be a decent man. I suspect he would be a very good PM especially on the world stage. He would restore Britain's standing as being a serious operator. However he does lack something that could make him a good leader. Which could cost them the election

‘This is home for everybody’: #Agreement25 day two:
"It is the home for everybody whether a united Ireland is something they want, or whether it’s something they’re indifferent to, or whether it’s something that they don’t want. It will still be their home and we have to learn to accommodate each other in Northern Ireland…"

‘The possible exists within the impossible’: #Agreement25 day one:
US Senator George Mitchell humbly thanked Northern Ireland: “We need you. We need your ongoing patience, stamina, and perseverance. We need people who believe, who know that the possible exists within the impossible.”

It was an insult to have the @DUP in the first place. They never signed the #GFA25 and use it for their own ends, when it suits them. They should have been outside in the cold as they were in 1998.
As for Foster, she shouldn't have been honoured and she shouldn't have accepted.
However, one of actors may be made a mistake, the other one was just tone deaf and lacking self awareness. Which is why is no longer #First Minister.

A privilege to attend tonight’s #GFA25 dinner at Hillsborough Castle with so many people who were involved with building and implementing the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement. Well done @chhcalling @HillsCastle Omagh Youth Community Choir, and so many others. A brilliant event. 👏👏
A thing I've noticed with all the #BA25 / #GFA25 stuff is they will have two people on a panel, one Catholic/Nationalist and the other Protestant/Unionist, and they will described as coming from "very different backgrounds", but the only difference is their favourite flag, and the particular strain of Christianity. You then often here "despite this, they had remarkably similar experiences".
Like despite what though? Of COURSE it was similar
Party leaders’ panel at #QUB #GFA25 fest. Pengelly managed a dud hand better than Junior yesterday, but that bar was particularly low. Long and Beattie the best performers. Is it just choreography for the DUP now? In other news, Donie shamefully underused despite getting in a dig or two at the former mayor of Cork.
It appears that on the list of ex #DUP MPs and leader's to be offended - it is Nigel's turn. The SoS is stating fact here. David Trimble and David Ervine pushed for Unionism to back #GFA25 while Nigel and #DUP sat outside, let others do the heavy lifting, calling them #Lundies. If Nigel is annoyed, maybe because the truth hurts. The #DUP doesn't like the truth pointed out to them.
