If you don’t need the isolation, consider removing the abstraction layer that’s adding the complexity that makes problems more likely to happen to harder to diagnose.

@sahil I don't recommend self-hosting email now either.

But I question using Nginx Proxy Manager when Nginx itself is easy to learn. Especially for a single app.

And I question using Docker compose when your virtual machine is literally hosting just one app.

When I help people on the #GhostBlog forums, nearly all questions come from people with these more complex setups, not the officially supported simple "wizard" which helps you interactively configure the app, setup Nginx, SSL and systemd

Hey #blogging #mastodon and #fediverse #indieweb users. Looking for a new blog framework that isn't just awful and locked-in. Very tired of #wordpress bloat. And #ghostblog just doesn't work without Node JS. So, maybe #writefreely? But if I go self-hosted then I'm either asking my web host to support it or I'm having to learn about running my own virtualised server. At that point, I might as well just use WP! Any recommendations?

I'm debating if I should allow user sign ups on my https://seerofsouls.com website or not.

If I do, this would allow users to comment on the posts. The downfall to this is toxicity in comments or even spam in the comments, which I really don't want to deal with.

Anyone else that's using Ghost Blog at DigitalOcean, what are your thoughts on this and how easy is it to moderate the comments if they are allowed?

I have the ability to add custom code to the site, so I'm guessing I can do it that way.

Anyone know how to accomplish this by chance?

Today my #WordPress site I'm close to retiring had 3 visits tracked by Matomo, but nearly 5,000 requests in the Nginx logs due to the massive volume of junk traffic. My #GhostBlog sites don't have that problem.

8.6% all HTTP requests answered by Nginx today-- about 1,000, have been malicious request for `wp-login.php`. I really need to get my last #WordPress site shutdown.

By contrast, the 3 #GhostBlog sites I host attracted zero malicious login attempts today.

@markstos I get you! I'm in the same boat, but I have maybe a bit more time than you for such things being semi-retired. I'm currently weighing up simplicity, functionality & cost. I do love the subscription & newsletter stuff on #GhostBlog, could be very useful. Just need to review my planned business model.

@jordankettner @darrylxxx #GhostBlog will provide you Admin API key right in the admin interface. With it, it would not be hard with a little coding experience to iterate over the posts, scan the text for words and then issue Edit API calls to add tags to the post.
