Another from Scotland, this time the Dunmore Estate Nr. Falkirk. Originally planned on seeing the Elphinstone Tower Mausoleum and The Pineapple, but came across this avenue of Giant Sequoia on route to the tower.

My partner at the time for scale. I'd have a guess at 200-250 years old, given that they can live for 3000 years they've got some growing to do.

Sequoiadendron giganteum (giant sequoia) are such stately trees. There's quite a few of them in residential yards around Reno. I wish I had one in my yard. This sequoia is just 200 metres from our home. In Victorian times many similar trees were planted in Great Malvern and travellers came here to take “the water cure”. Malvern water is famous for being very pure (filtered through the old igneous rocks).

Today’s #ThickTrunkTuesday is an oldie! Back from my trip to #MariposaGrove in 2010-ish. My love of trees was not by any means new, but was sparked into obsession when witnessing the giant beauties there.

This is me with the #CaliforniaTunnelTree. This #GiantSequoia is the only remaining living tunnelled tree in Mariposa Grove (the other fell in 1969). It was carved through in 1895 to promote tourism, though the tunnelling greatly affects the health of the tree.
