This photograph — of uncertain attribution — purportedly shows a #NorthernCatalpa #Catalpa_speciosa of ludicrous proportions from Maysville, Missouri. As surreal as this size looks, it is consistent with the MO Department of Conservation website: a trunk circumference of 286”, roughly a diameter of 7’7” or 2.31 meters. Amazingly, another in Missouri has an even larger trunk!

To give a better idea of the scale of a giant #YellowBuckeye #Aesculus_flava this is a shorter specimen (134’ / 40.8 m) with a larger diameter (6’ / 1.83 m vs. 4.6’ / 1.4 m). Pretty unbelievable these #GiantTrees can occur in the Eastern US.
