"Some young children create stunningly realistic drawings ... [While others] create nonrepresentational paintings that have been mistaken for the works of adult abstract expressionist artists." 🎨🖼️

Jennifer E. Drake intruiguingly argues we lack an understanding of the latter.

Understanding artistic giftedness at a young age requires more research on the development of these "abstract art prodigies". 🧠💡

Can't agree more! ♥️

What makes creativity by children hard to judge❓

Among the many interesting results in this study by Dumas and colleagues was that evaluators "... were more likely to disagree on highly original responses from Gifted/Talented students".

Important findings for researchers and educators.💡

Those of us who live and work in the field of recognize the arbitrariness of scores. For example, a popular destination testing center in Colorado is well known for ignoring protocol and testing kids on the selected subtests that they know gifted kids will ace. So many of their clients come out with artificially high scores ... and, incidentally, an extraordinarily high percent are also diagnosed with convergence insufficiency. /2

I've been reading a bit more about / in childhood to prove or disprove to myself that it is a trait I possess. Leaving aside debate over what it is or is not, these slides sum up my experience as a child pretty succinctly.
