For #WorldOceanDay - a recommendation:

I've been reading this book by @al_humphreys with my kids and it's not only a pretty engaging read, by turns funny, informative, serious and gripping, it also deals very sensibly with the massive issues facing the ocean, though with a light touch.
Pollution, plastics, overfishing, marine biology are all covered but never preachily*.

Highly recommended to introduce some difficult issues to 8 year olds +

Just finished reading @al_humphreys #GirlWhoRowedTheOcean with kids. I thought it rather successful, more so than #TheBoyWhoBikedTheWorld to some extent.

It's surprising how rare it (still!) is for girls to feature in adventure stories like these and I thought he made a decent job of raising some really important issues (biodiversity loss, over fishing, pollution, climate etc) in a very natural and non-preachy way.

Recommended also for schools, lots of teaching materials online
