This formation (East Lady Evelyn Conservation Reserve) is near my hometown and quite amazing to visit - in particular to paddle a around. This geology is one of the reasons we were taught about and their retreat during school. Features like eskers, kettles, moraines, and kames were all familiar to those in the area.

Rock on the beach at Barnum Point, Camano Island, WA. Conglomerate with subrounded cherty clasts in a dark matrix. Any sedimentary petrologists? Likely weathered out of till that caps the bluffs or a dropstone from floating ice on marine water incursion during the Everson interstade. Source rock provenance not known. Ref. Atlantic white cedar , , , , USA
(Juniper family, Chamaecyparis thyoides) grows in low areas on the US east coast. This swamp is probably in a kettle left by the , not interdune. These aren’t climax trees because the seedlings can’t grow in shade. These trees were harvested as rot-resistant timber by colonists, leading to extensive deforestation on the cape.

More geology from my walk along the bluffs at Barnum Point on Camano Island. Classic glacial sequence in this region displayed in the bluff with advance outwash sand mantled by till from the ice sheet advance of the Vashon stade, i.e. the Puget Lobe. Outwash dated to estimated 18 to 20 ka. Till from about 18 ka to about 13.5 ka. Ref. Geologic map of the Juniper Beach 7.5-minute quadrangle, WDGER Geologic Map GM70.

For this , a photo I took in 2011 looking up Little Yosemite Valley at Nevada (the upper one) and Vernal (the lower one) falls in National Park. These, and other waterfalls in Yosemite NP, are one of the legacies of in the Mountains.
