Great bike ride today from Kirkintilloch to Maryhill via the Forth & Clyde Canal towpath. The cycling infrastructure in #Glasgow is improving and the Stockingfield Bridge development is just amazing. The towpath is a perfect bike route into the city, past swans, cygnets and herons basking in the sun.

It might not seem like much, but this patch of rough grassland in the middle of a mid-20th Century housing estate on the eastern edge of Glasgow is home to some of the city's most unusual animal inhabitants: Water voles which live no where near any water whatsoever!

If you're out and about near any wooded areas over the next few weeks, keep an eye out for theses fungi. They're called Scarlet Elf Cups. They get their name from the ancient belief that wood elves drank the morning dew from them.

A non-native species, parakeets first appeared in Glasgow in about 2015. Originally, their main centre of distribution was around Victoria Park, but now the slightly wilder Dawsholm Park is where they are most commonly seen. There are now around 200 individuals living wild around the city.
