278 years ago today. Prince Charles Edward Stuart, "Bonnie Prince Charlie", raised his standard at Glenfinnan on 19 August 1745, starting the ill-fated 1745 Jacobite uprising. The Glenfinnan Monument was erected on the spot in 1815. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/gle

One bad surprise though, the footbridge from visitor centre to the east bank of is closed : that implies a detour including 3 km on a busy road, and (and tourists) are not getting better at ...

I've made a note about that closure on , doesn't have the footpath not bridge at all, so they're unaffected! ;)

And today, first leg of our journey: from train station (best known for its viaduct) to , 37 km 800 m+. Half on a rocky path along the loch, quite pleasant, the other half on road but with (we guess) a section at 12-14%...!
All that still in good - we're lucky didn't quite reach here.

One route that seems doable and enjoyable for us is ferry from to , then road-cycle 42km to , stopping there for the night (BnB, recommendations?), in the morning cycle up the road (300m↑, 10km) to and then take the forestry road to (21km, probably a lot of up and down). From there, there are 2 trains back to at 5pm ad 7pm.

View from the café was even better than the car park earlier.

The very tame (café) Robins enjoyed eating some of Gruoch's cheese. Gruoch has something in common with Gromit, although she doesn't get Wensleydale.

The Glenfinnan railway Viaduct in Glenfinnan, Inverness-shire, Scotland, built in 1901. Located at the top of Loch Sheil. Recently made even more famous by the Harry Potter movies. This photo is from about half way along the train, which runs from Fort William to Mallaig on the coast and back, and is probably the most scenic train journey in Britain.
